January 2022 // Book update

Dear friends,

I hope you all made it well into 2022. Thanks for all the messages and feedback following my last update. Some of you offered their help with proofreading, printing arrangements, book distribution an so on, which is very nice of you!
This update is going to be a short one as I am rather busy these days. Here is what’s going on:
  • CAD drawings and book content creation is moving forward very well. I am quite happy with the progress of the past weeks.
  • Printing deal secured
I have found a printing company in Austria which is perfect for the Job. The book will be printed using sustainable paper and colors of good quality for a reasonable price.
  • Licensing
Coming from the field of Open Source Hardware, licensing can be an important part of a project. What License fits this project best? Should there be separate licenses for the book itself and the technical wind turbine designs shown in the book? I am in contact with experts from this field and working to find the best choice in order to make this book most useful for the community of wind turbine and off-grid DIY builders.
For example, there are Ideas about releasing complete CAD models of the wind turbines from the book via GitHub. This needs to be done properly with the right open source license and so on. I think It could be very valuable for the community.
  • Online book Q&A session
I thought that could be cool since I receive many questions regarding the book project and my work with DIY wind turbines in general. I will figure something out all let you all know.
  • Infrastructure around the book
In order to distribute the book, some infrastructure is needed. This includes a proper online representation of the book with all necessary information, online order & payment function, Q&A section and so on. Also continuous shipping of the physical books is a thing to sort out.
One of my next tasks will be to re-structure the pureselfmade.com website and give it a little facelift. To be honest, I’ve been a bit lazy regarding website maintenance and marketing….
I will add more Information regarding the book project, create a blog section where all these updates from Indiegogo will be published too and put a pre-order function there because I receive more and more emails from people who want to secure their copy.
  • Practical wind turbine courses will happen again this year, the first of which will take place in Germany from April 27th to May 1st. More updates soon!
Last but not least, I hope you don’t feel spammed by my updates here. The Indiegogo crowdfunding platform requires me to post regular updates and I actually like it, it’s some sort of self reflection work. ?
Talk to you soon,
Jonathan

  • Excellent work, nice to see that there are people brave enough to try things out and create them from scratch! Looking forward to that book!
